Mack, Volvo 2014 Trucks Receive Greenhouse-Gas Certification from EPA

Mack Trucks Inc.

Mack Trucks and Volvo Trucks said Wednesday their 2014 model-year trucks have been certified by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in accordance with 2014 fuel-efficiency and greenhouse-gas regulations.

The two companies are units of Sweden-based Volvo AB.

“Certification of Mack’s entire vehicle portfolio reflects our continued commitment to fuel efficiency, environmental stewardship and the country’s long-term energy security,” said John Walsh, Mack’s vice president of marketing.

“Volvo is committed to leadership in fuel efficiency and to reducing the carbon footprint of our operations and products,” said Göran Nyberg, president of Volvo Trucks’ North American sales and marketing.

Engine maker Cummins Inc. said this fall it had received federal certification that its new 15-liter engine meets 2014 greenhouse-gas standards.

Daimler Trucks North America already has earned federal certification of its Freightliner and Western Star trucks and said at the time that it had filed for its Detroit brand engines.
