Consumer Confidence Falls to Five-Month Low

Consumer confidence fell to a five-month low this month, the New York-based Conference Board said Tuesday.

The group’s monthly index slipped to a reading of 62, from a revised 64 in May that was lower than originally reported.

Economists had forecast a reading of 63, Bloomberg reported.

An improvement in confidence may increase consumer spending, which accounts for 70% of the economy.
