Union Pacific’s 1Q Earnings Jump 35%

Union Pacific Corp. said Thursday its first-quarter profit rose 35%, boosted by higher intermodal revenue.

Net earnings rose to $863 million, or $1.79 per share, from $639 million, or $1.29, the eastern freight railroad said.

Revenue rose 14% to $5.1 billion, helped by an increase of 15% in intermodal revenue, to $909 million.
