Saia’s Earnings Improve in 2Q

Saia Inc. said Thursday it earned a profit in the second quarter of $2 million, or 12 cents a share, compared with a loss of $1.8 million, or 13 cents a year ago.

Its operating income was $5.9 million, compared with an operating loss of $399,000 last year. Operating revenue rose 5.9% to $218.4 million.

Tonnage at its Saia Motor Freight Line less-than-truckload unit rose 1.6% from a year ago.

Saia is ranked No. 25 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
