Balancing the Mix to Manage Fatigue

Several research programs under way are designed to show the benefits of using technology and behavior modification to prevent accidents caused by drivers falling asleep at the wheel. Officials from government, industry and academia say these projects show enough promise that they could be commercially adopted within a couple of years.

Fatigue management technology and training are being looked at to reduce fatalities, equipment losses and insurance costs, as well as to help motor carriers retain and attract drivers.
