In addition to an Averitt paycheck and $5,000 tuition/transition assistance bonus, veterans can earn as much as $1,140 per month tax-free for up to 12 months using available GI Bill funds.

New associates participating in the program receive a combination of behind-the-wheel training and mentorship throughout the 12-month program, according to the Cookeville, Tenn.-based carrier.

“Hiring military veterans is a special focus for our team, because they are a perfect fit on many levels,” Elise Leeson, Averitt’s vice president of human resources, said in a statement. “They have a strong sense of commitment and service, they know how to work as part of a team, and they have discipline that helps them excel in whatever role they play. They’re exactly the kind of associates we want to have on our team.”

Averitt Express ranks No. 31 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest for-hire carriers in North America.
