Average Gasoline Price Surges to $2.29, Lundberg Survey Says

he average retail price of regular gasoline rose 19 cents in the past three weeks to a record $2.29 a gallon as of April 8, according to the latest Lundberg Survey of filling stations nationwide.

But survey editor Trilby Lundberg said gasoline prices could be peaking, following recent surges in crude oil prices, CNBC reported Monday.

The previous record was $2.10, set on March 21 in the previous survey. Gasoline prices have increased 38 cents in the past month and were 52 cents higher than a year earlier.

The survey reported the highest price for regular gasoline was $2.62 a gallon in Bakersfield, Calif. The lowest was $2.06, in Newark, N.J., where there is no self-serve gasoline.
