Autocar Recalls 4,100 Nat-Gas Trucks

Autocar is recalling 4,100 natural gas-powered trucks as the initial major recall of Cummins Westport ISL G and Cummins’ ISX 12 G is expanded.

The recall to correct the possible freezing of moisture in the intake manifold was reported to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and posted on NHTSA’s website.

The recall affects ACX, WX and WXLL refuse trucks from model years 2008-2014. Autocar, based in Hagerstown, Ind., makes refuse and severe-duty vocational trucks.

Earlier this year, more than 25,000 tractors from other OEMs were recalled because of issues with the natural-gas engines.

Neither Cummins nor Autocar responded to requests for comment.

The condensation issue could raise exhaust temperatures and send flames shooting out the exhaust stacks, the recall notice said. Repairs that will be done by recalibration of the engine control module will begin May 1.
