eavy-duty components maker ArvinMeritor said Tuesday it will close its commercial vehicle aftermarket distribution facility near Cleveland to streamline its North American parts distribution system.

ArvinMeritor said it expected to close the facility by June 2006 and that it would offer all 79 of the facility's employees positions in the company's main parts distribution warehouse in Florence, Ky.

The 200,000-square-foot became part of ArvinMeritor when the company acquired Euclid Industries in 1998 to broaden its aftermarket product and brand offerings.

“Our first focus is our workforce at the Cleveland warehouse, who will be offered the opportunity to stay with the company, and second is to support and bolster our strong Euclid parts brand,” said Joe Mejaly, vice president and general manager of ArvinMeritor’s commercial vehicle aftermarket unit.

“Euclid is and will remain a mainstay of our aftermarket offerings,” he said in a statement.

Over the next 10 months, the company will begin transferring warehouse and operations. It also operates aftermarket facilities in Florence, Ky., Plainfield, Ind., and in Mexico, Australia, Brazil, Canada and Europe.
