Arkansas Best’s Third-Quarter Income Slides; Revenue Gains

rkansas Best Corp., the parent of less-than-truckload carrier ABF Freight System, reported Monday a third-quarter profit of $31.5 million or $1.24 a share, down from $40.6 million or $1.61 a year earlier.

img src="/sites/default/files/images/articles/arkansasbestlogo.gif" width=70 align=right>The company said its earnings from operations were an improvement over the year-ago period after adjusting for a 38 cents-per-share gain on sale of properties to G.I. Trucking.

Third-quarter revenue rose 11.2% to $507.3 million, the company said.



ABF Freight System, the company’s largest subsidiary, saw its revenue rise to $507.3 million from $463.3 million.

Arkansas Best is ranked No. 17 on the 2006 Transport Topics 100 list of the largest U.S. and Canadian trucking companies.
