Ariz. Officials Seek Solution to Hoover Dam Detour
Bullhead City Rerouting Said to Cost Trucking Industry More Than $30 Million a Year

An estimated $30 million a year in trucking industry costs for traveling through a Bullhead City, Ariz., detour around the Hoover Dam has some Arizona Department of Transportation officials unwilling to force truckers farther south on a third route.
Other answers are in the works for truck-weary residents of the Bullhead City-Laughlin, Nev., bridge area who are seeing an increase in big rig traffic.
Trucking officials are working with state transportation agencies on solutions, like more signs and reduced speeds on the State Highway 68 detour after a Sept. 11 ban on trucks and trailers crossing Hoover Dam on Route 93 was continued indefinitely.
