etherlands-based Royal Ahold NV agreed to pay $1.1 billion to settle a U.S. class-action suit over the company’s falsification of earnings, Bloomberg reported Tuesday.

The agreement will cost the company about 585 million in its third quarter, the largest such settlement for a European company in the United States, Bloomberg said.

Ahold is the parent of Ahold USA, which owns the Giant and Stop & Shop supermarket chains in the United States and is ranked No. 3 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of North American private fleets.
