Every day, Americans travel across 70,000 bridges that have been deemed structurally deficient, and former Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood told the CBS program '60 Minutes' Sunday that he considers those bridges "dangerous."

Why hasn't the problem been addressed?

LaHood, now co-chairman of Building America's Future, said "Politicians in Washington don't have the political courage to say, 'This is what we have to do.' That's what it takes."

CBS reporter Steve Kroft interviewed House Ways and Means Committee Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.), who said he has "been trying now for 44 months to at least get a hearing on transportation finance on the Highway Trust Fund that is slowly going bankrupt, and we've not had a single one." He said Congress just hasn't made it a priority, as Congress struggles to figure out where the money would come from.
